The TEFL
Certificate Program (50 hours):
TEFL Certification - Modules 1 & 2
- Tuition - $895.00 ($Cdn.)
The TEFL certificate program consists of 2
modules.
Module 1: Independent Preparatory Study
This 20-24-hour module introduces you to teaching English as a Second or
Foreign Language. Clear examples and explanations of the current teaching
practices are described in the adopted Jeremy Harmer text; how
to teach english.
This module introduces you to traditional teaching models, as well as some concepts borne out of research and theory developed by Noam Chomsky, such as; Language Acquisition Device (LAD), which is central to understanding concurrent teaching practices, i.e.,the communicative language teaching model. Included are plenty of examples to demonstrate communicative ways to teach the four skills; listening & speaking / reading & writing. This module prepares you for the practical application of the theory, which is the focus of Module 2. The cost is (Cdn.) $245.00. Texts will be sent via mail once payment is received. Module 2: The Practical Application of Language for Communication
Continuing from and beyond the text; how to teach english our understanding
of the communicative teaching model is expanded. Launching from Stephen
Krashen’s Theory of Second Language Acquisition, we now learn how
to apply the theory in teaching practice. You will develop your skills
using group, pair and individual work that require you to engage in mock-classroom
presentations of lesson and unit planning and development. In addition,
you will become familiar with the literacy tool; Canadian
Language Benchmarks for Adults, which is fast becoming the most popular and effective tool
for student testing and curriculum planning in the ESL/EFL teaching world.
Included in the classroom study module is assistance with the international
job application process, as well as, tips for international travel and
residency. This 26-30 hour module will activate your understanding and
lay a foundation for your future development as a successful English language
teacher. The cost is (Cdn). $650.00, which must be received by certified
cheque, Cdn money order or cash, prior to, or on, the 1st night of class.
